Abstract

Sustainable development is an important area of study for many scientific disciplines since the 1980s, when the debate about the fight against environmental issues that arise as a result of people's interaction with the environment reveals that the environment and the economy are two important non-contradictory elements. United Nations definition of the concept at the institutional level in 1987, discussions on sustainability seem to be on the increase. When the definition made by the United Nations is examined, it can be said that economic, ecological and social dimensions are the main dimensions of sustainable development. The aim of this study is to examine the economic, ecological and social dimensions of sustainable development and to show what each dimension explains. In the study, primarily sustainable development was examined in detail in the context of the historical process and the definition of the United Nations. Later, the concept of sustainable development was discussed with economic, ecological and social dimensions and what each dimension means.
