Economic modelling of the management of dredged marine sediments
Journal Title: Geology, Geophysics & Environment - Year 2016, Vol 42, Issue 3
Abstract
This paper presents an economic model developed to support the use and sustainable management of dredged marine sediments. The sustainable management of dredged sediments is a significant challenge for the international ports and harbours industry due to the large sediment volumes generated and its varying quality and characteristics. A general overview of the economic modelling approach applied is presented and model outputs including direct project costs and direct, indirect and induced economic impacts on GDP and Employment. A number of feasible sediment management techniques are identified for Ireland including land reclamation and wetland creation. The economic model has been applied to analyse the beneficial use technologies identified providing indicative economic results for Ireland.

Laboratory measurements of natural radioactivity in selected igneous rocks of the Opava Mountains region
The paper presents the results of the laboratory gamma-ray measurements of six igneous rocks from the Opava Mountains. The Opava Mountains are located in the Eastern Sudetes and represent their furthest eastern range. Th...
Second occurrence of the new mineral harmunite CaFe2O4, Negev Desert, Israel
Harmunite (ideally CaFe2O4) was found in the natural environment for the first time in 2014 in pyrometamorpic larnite rocks of the Hatrurim Complex that lies near Jabel Harmun – moutain located in Judean Desert, Israel –...
Pickeringite from the Pieprzowe Mts. (the Holy Cross Mts., Central Poland)
The Pieprzowe Mts., which constitute the eastern part of the Holy Cross Mts. (Central Poland), are considered a large complex of mid-Cambrian strata (Alexandrowicz 1972). In a 2-km long exposure of the Pieprzowe Mts succ...
The impact of the mineral composition of Carboniferous claystones on the water-induced changes of their geomechanical properties
In this article, the authors describe the characteristics and changes of geomechanical properties of Carbonifeorus claystones as related to their mineral composition and the time of soaking in water. Geomechanical proper...
Seismic modelling as a tool for optimization of downhole microseismic monitoring array
Hydraulic fracturing processes employed to release natural gas accumulations trapped in shale formation causes cracks in fractured media occurred as microseismic events. Those events can be detected with either surface o...
