Economic shocks, financial contagion and network sustain ability of banking system

Abstract
The paper presents the impact of two specific negative events on banking system: economic shocks and financial contagion. Initially, it clarifies nature and specificity of mentioned events and then subsequently considers various empirical studies at national / regional and global level on their impact on the sustainability of the network structure of credit institutions. An emphasis is put on the banking network in Bulgaria by analyzing the extent of its sustainability.
