Abstract

Shehrengiz, which emerged at Classical Turkish Literature in XVI th century, is a poetic type, in which natural, historical and architectural beauties of a city, and good-lookers famed in various professions are told. The majority of the good-lookers told in shehrengiz are from craft class, young men in different occupational groups. The first example of shehrengiz in our literature was written by Mesîhî in the first half of the XVI th century, and then about Edirne province by Zâtî. As a result of the comparison of four copies of Zâtî‟s Edirne Shehrengiz, it was determined that the work consisted of 167 couplets. “Beginning (Creation), knot, praise of sultan, portrayal of Edirne, portrayal of daylight, portrayal of good-lookers, epilog” sections are available in the Shehrengiz. In Shehrengiz's urban portrayal section, the unique beauty of Edirne, its fortress, vineyards and rivers are portrayed exaggeratedly. In the good-lookers section of the work, 52 good-looking people are praised mentioning of their professions, names, nickname or father‟s name/profession. In this article, put emphasize on the form and content of Zâtî‟s Edirne ġhehrengiz and transcription of the text has been given.
