Eff ect of KinesioTaping application on postural stability after ankle sprain

Abstract
Background. Ankle sprain is a very common injury, but the treatment of choice is not the best one. In this study the authors tried to prove the effi ciency of Kinesio Taping (KT) in physiotherapy. The purpose of the study was to probe the infl uence of on a postural sway after ankle sprain using a dynamometric platform. In addition, the authors provided SF-36 and Foot and Ankle Ability Measure (FAAM) scales to measure the quality of life. Material and methods. The sample of 8 females and 7 males aged 19-26 years (the mean age = 22.6 ± 2.47 years) with 1 and 2 grade ankle sprain participated in the study. The measurements were taken three times: before, immediately after and one week following the fi rst KT application. Results. No signifi cant diff erences were found in postural sway: in mean square COP and COP trajectories in the horizontal and vertical facets. There was a signifi cant change in FAAM (ADL subscale p=0.001 and Sport Subscale p=0.003) and in SF-36 (in physical health p=0.027). The results obtained in SF-36 scale did not show any signifi cant diff erences in mental health (p=0.074). A signifi cant correlation was also found between the results of FAAM scale and physical health measured in SF-36 scale (p=0.001). Conclusions. After using KT application the postural sway did not change. The quality of life, measured by SF-36 and FAAM scales, improved.
