Effect of different wheat cultivars on population fluctuation parameters of Sitophilus oryzae (L.)

Journal Title: International Research Journal of Applied and Basic Sciences - Year 2014, Vol 8, Issue 5

Abstract

Rice weevil is one of the most important pests in the world and Golestan province. In this paper we study the resistance of 8 genotypes of wheat consist Koohdasht, Zagros, Morvarid, Darya, Pastor, Line 17, Line A and N-80-19, on the number of dead and live insects, and rice weevil population growth rate. One hundred grams of wheat were transferred to a small jar glass. Then 10 insects were released to the glasses in storage conditions. Sampling was done every 15-10 days. Data were analyzed with SAS software. Results of variance analysis of rice weevil showed that except pollution index other studied characters in this paper in wheat models have a significant in %1 level (P<0.01). Characters average comparison in noted times showed that the at least an average number of live insects 4/75 was counted at the time recorded. Check out the comparison of characteristics of wheat varieties showed the highest average Koohdasht (15/19) live insects, dead insects lowest (1/44) and the highest growth rate (0/107). Due to the number of live insects and population growth rates, Koohdasht sensitive and line N-80-19 was the most resistant genotypes among cultivars.
