EFFECT OF ENTAMOEBA COLI IN THE LEVEL OF POTASSIUM AND PHOSPHORUS IN HUMAN PLASMA

Abstract

Background: Entamoeba coli is intestinal protozoan amoeba which is regarded tell now as commensal although their adverse symptom they may cause in certain conditions. Objectives: General objectives to know the pathological effect induced by Entamoeba coli infection. Specific objectives to know the effect of Entamoeba coli on electrolytes level, certainly Phosphorous and potassium. Methodology: stool specimen was diagnosed through wet mount, then blood was collected from 2 patients infected with Entamoeba coli and plasma from both patient was used to estimate potassium and phosphorus levels. Result: low level of phosphorus and potassium was detected in both patients. Conclusion: Entamoeba coli infection induced reduction in the level of phosphorus and potassium in patient’s plasma.
