Effect of inoculum density on the morphology and physiology of Bambusa vulgaris Schrad. ex Wendl shoots cultured in Temporary Immersion System
Journal Title: Biotecnología Vegetal - Year 2016, Vol 16, Issue 4
Abstract
Bambusa vulgaris Schrad. Ex Wendl is a species of great environmental importance and plays a vital role in the economic development of Cuba. The present work was carried out with objective of determining effect of inoculum density on morphology and physiology of the shoots of B. vulgaris cultivated in SIT. Morphological and physiological parameters of cultivated plants were evaluated at different inoculum densities (6, 12 and 18 explants per SIT) for 30 days. The results showed that densities studied had an effect on growth and physiology of shoots during in vitro multiplication. Studies revealed that number of shoots, shoot length, leaf numbers and chlorophyll increased with inoculum density of 12 explants. However, experiment showed that increase in inoculum density decreased accumulation of total chlorophyll, dry mass content of the shoots and water content. These results showed a better morpho-physiological response of shoots cultivated with 12 explants. This study provides an initial understanding of response of B. vulgaris shoots to cultivation of in vitro conditions, which is important for increasing production of bamboo plants.

Use of Temporary Immersion Systems (RITA) in the propagation of plants via organogenesis in sugar cane and bananas
The present work had as objective to study the possibilities to use the RITA, in the micropropagation plant via axillary buds of sugarcane and of the banana hybrid (Musa sp. AAAA cv. FHIA-01 and AAAB cv. FHIA-18). Two d...
In vitro propagation of Morus alba L. in semi-solid culture medium
Apical buds as explants were used with the objective to propagate in vitro mulberry plants in semisolid MS culture medium suplemented with 6-BAP and KIN in their establishment and, with different combinations of 6- BAP...
Plant regeneration of five cultivars of Phaseolus vulgaris L. via direct organogenesis
The beans are an important source for human consumption in Cuba due their protein content. For this reason; the search for cultivars with greater potential is a prominent challenge in this specie. Tissue culture in Phas...
Characterization of leaf area of Agave fourcroydes Lem. plants obtained from asexual propagation
The henequen (Agave fourcroydes Lem.) is a crop of great economic importance. This study was aimed to characterize the leaf surface of henequen plants variety ‘Sac Ki’ obtained by asexual propagation methods. In vitro...
Scaling-up the biomass production of Cymbopogon citratus L. in temporary immersion system
Shoot-tips, collected from greenhouse-grown plants of Cymbopogon citratus L. (lemmon grass), were incubated on a semi-solid Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium with 30% (w/v) sucrose, and supplemented with 0.89 μM 6-benzyl...
