Journal Title: Journal of Air Force Medical University - Year 2023, Vol 44, Issue 10

Abstract

Objective To study the influence and mechanism of psychological stress on mental health of frontier officers and soldiers, and to explore the mediating role of psychological capital and the moderating role of expressive suppression. Methods From February to June 2020, 777 frontier officers and soldiers were investigated by Self-Reporting Questionnaire 20, Positive Psychological Capital Questionnaire, Psychological Stress Self-Evaluation Test, and Emotion Regulation Questionnaire. Results The mental health of frontier officers and soldiers had a significant positive correlation with psychological stress ( r = 0. 625, P < 0. 01) and expressive suppression ( r = 0. 113, P < 0. 01), and a significant negative correlation with psychological capital (r = - 0. 191, P < 0. 01) and cognitive reappraisal (r = - 0. 085, P < 0. 01). The structural equation model showed that psychological capital played a partial mediating role between psychological stress and mental health, and expressive suppression played a moderating role in the influence path of psychological stress on mental health. Conclusion Psychological stress not only directly affects the mental health of frontier officers and soldiers, but also indirectly affects the mental health of frontier officers and soldiers through psychological capital, and it is moderated by expressive suppression.
