Effect of removable denture cleansers on chemical property change of elastic prosthetic materials
Journal Title: Journal of Stomatology (Czasopismo Stomatologiczne) - Year 2010, Vol 63, Issue 3
Abstract
Aim of the study: To analyze chemical compounds which are released from elastic prosthetic materials under the influenceofselecteddisinfectants. Material and methods: The investigated materials (Vertex Soft, Villacryl Soft, Molloplast B, Mollosil) have been stored in ways imitating the actual wearing and maintaining of removable dentures by patients. The following agents used to disinfect removable dentures have been applied: sodium hypochlorite, chlorhexidin gluconate, hydrogen peroxide, and the Corega Tabs cleansing tablets. The identificationofthe chemical compounds rinsed from these materials, and their quantitative evaluation have been carried out by means of gas chromatography linked with mass spectrometry. Results: The quantitative analysis has shown that sodium hypochlorite has the greatest effect on the lining materials, especially those which polymerize at room temperature. Conclusions: Agents used to disinfect dentures facilitate the release of chemical compounds, which may affect the elastic properties of denture lining materials.
