Effect of Sulfur Application Rates on Some Quality Traits and Yield of Iranian Onion Varieties

Journal Title: International Research Journal of Applied and Basic Sciences - Year 2012, Vol 3, Issue 6

Abstract

This research was conducted in farm and laboratory of SPII in Karaj, IRAN in 2010 of sulfur application rates (0, 50, 200, 150, 200, 250 kg/ha and 200 plus thiobasillus) effects on the yield and quality traits of onion Red Rey and Qom White varieties. Experimental design was factorial in RCBD with four replicates. Results showed varieties were significantly different in yield and pyruvic acid contents. Reciprocal effects of factors were not significant in all traits. Red Rey variety with 6.50 μ moles/g FW pyruvic acid was higher than other variety. Among sulfur rates the highest yield obtained of 200 kg/ha plus TB with 42.63 T/ha. Meanwhile among sulfur rates the least tissue firmness obtained of 0 and 50 kg/ha. The highest and the least bulb pyruvic acid contents were related to 200 kg/ha plus TB and 0 kg/ha respectively. So it can be concluded application sulfur 200 kg/ha plus TB was the best treatment and can be recommended.
