Effect of water stress on oil yield and some characteristics of brassica napus

Journal Title: International Research Journal of Applied and Basic Sciences - Year 2014, Vol 8, Issue 9

Abstract

Water stress is one of the most significant stresses of agriculturally important crops, affecting growth, development and yield. Moisture stress cause reduction in leaf chlorophyll content of plants. Therefore, for better yields under stress, higher chlorophyll content might contribute to higher plant productivity. There are many reports in the literature that underline the intimate relationship between enhanced or constitutive antioxidant enzyme activities and increased resistance to environmental stresses in several plant species. Rapeseed is an important oilseed crop in the agricultural systems of many arid and semiarid areas where its yield is often restricted by water deficit and high temperatures during the reproductive growth. Brassica napus is the world's third most commonly grown vegetable oil crop. It is cultivated in Northern Europe, including Poland.
