Effect of working portion slope of worn wheel flange for a comprehensively retrofitted bogie of freight car on wheel wear

Abstract
The work objective was to estimate the effects of an increase in the slope of the working portion of the flange of an unworn wheel for a comprehensively retrofitted bogie of the freight car on wear of its wheels. Meth-ods of statistic dynamics, numerical integration, mathematical modelling, vibration theory were used. The ITM-73-01 profile of wheels has been previously developed for further improving a comprehensive ret-rofit of bogies. This profile provides a conform contact with worn rails in curves of small and average radii. The present paper deals with a family of profiles of wheel treads, which differ in maximum slopes of the working portion of the flange (70º,71º,72º,73º and 74º), when a contour of a roll surface of the ITM-73-01 profile is not changed. Presented are the results of theoretic studies in processes of interactions between a rail gauge and the freight cars with comprehensively retrofitted bogies and wheels with given profiles, when they fit in curves of 300 m radius having various wear. Based on the analysis of the results obtained, we can conclude: there is a little sense in increasing 70º a maximum slope of the working portion of wheel flange with the profile developed in excess of 70º. This will cause variations in the scheme of interactions between the freight cars with comprehensively retrofitted bogies and the track, resulting in higher undercutting flanges.
