Effect of ZnO Nanoparticles on the Anticorrosion Properties of Epoxy Coating
Journal Title: Analele Universitatii "Dunarea de Jos" din Galati. Fascicula IX, Metalurgie si Stiinta Materialelor - Year 2014, Vol 37, Issue 2
Abstract
Homogeneous epoxy coating obtained by embedding ZnO nanoparticles (≤50 nm) in the epoxy matrix, was applied on Grade A naval steel substrates by dipcoating method. The morphology and microstructure of the coatings were characterized by optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy with electron diffraction spectroscopy (SEM-EDS) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. The effect of nanoparticles on the corrosion resistance of the hybrid coatings was investigated by potentiodynamic polarization method. The coated steel samples were electrochemically monitored over the 30 days of immersion in 5 wt.% NaCl solution. The incorporation of a small amount of ZnO nanoparticles (1 wt.%) has a beneficial effect, significantly improving the anticorrosion behavior of coating in terms of polarization resistance and corrosion rate, parameters estimated from Tafel curves.

Aspects of Materials Decay Under Chemical Attack from the Leachate Treatment Plant of the Tirighina Waste Landfill
Human society faces a number of major problems among which the increasingly negative consequences of environmental pollution. The high uses rate of the natural resources and the large amount of waste generated tend to tr...
The Consequences of Heavy Metals Impact on Primary Teeth
Since the metals deposited in the teeth during formation and mineralization processes are to a large extent retained, human teeth receive a considerable attention as indicators of heavy metal exposure. The objective of t...
Thermodynamic Assesment of The Cu - Ti System in Microalloyed Copper Base Alloys
The correlations made between thermodynamic and kinetic data of the heterogeneous systems provided insight into the alloys properties. Experimental researches presented in this paper refer to the thermodynamics of Cu-Ti...

Influence of Cooling Oil on the Surface Quality of the Rolled Strip
The excess of emulsion used in the lamination process leads to the formation of drops which in the annealing process forms spots of burned emulsion. It was also shown to cause formation areas with high carbon concentrati...
