Effects of dietary phytic acid on digestibility of main nutrients and mineral absorption in mink (Mustela vison)
Journal Title: Journal of Animal and Feed Sciences - Year 2010, Vol 19, Issue 1
Abstract
The objective of the study was to evaluate the effects of dietary phytic acid (IP6) on the apparent total tract digestibility (ATTD) of main nutrients and apparent absorption of minerals in mink (Mustela vison). A basal moist diet consisting of fish meal, fish oil and wheat starch was added at different concentrations of soluble sodium phytate, thus obtaining six diets with graded levels of IP6 (0-19.9 g IP6 kg dry matter-1). Each diet was fed to four adult male mink kept in individual cages. There were no significant effects of IP6 on the ATTD of crude protein, fat, starch or energy, whereas the apparent absorption of copper and magnesium was significantly reduced with increasing concentration of IP6. Thus, as observed in other monogastric animals, we conclude that dietary IP6 could impair mineral status in mink, but may not affect digestibility of energy-yielding nutrients.

Efficacy of different levels of Escherichia coli phytase in hens fed maize-soyabean meal based diets with a decreased non-phytate phosphorus content
The aim of this experiment was to determine the efficacy of different inclusion levels of new type phytase (ECP) synthesized by Escherichia coli and expressed in Pichia pastoris yeast (Optiphos) in maize-soyabean meal ba...
Kisspeptin (kiss 1) network signaling of hypothalamic gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) neurons
To regulate reproduction in mammals, internal and external status is communicated to the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis via a coordinated balance of stimulatory and inhibitory neurochemical systems. This review desc...
The effect of savory (Satureja khuzistanica) essential oils on performance, liver and kidney functions in broiler chickens
This study was conducted to examine the effect of supplementation of 0 (control-), 0.5, 1, 1.5, 2, and 2.5 g . l−1 essential oils of Satureja khuzistanica (EOSk) or 3 g . l−1 polysorbate-80 (control+) into drinking water...
The influence of supplementing heifer diets with Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeast on the activity of polysaccharidases in the rumen
The effect of live cells and metabolites of the yeast, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, in the diet on the activity of polysaccharidases in the rumen of heifers was examined. The experiment was carried out on three rumen-fistul...
A new set of endogenous reference genes for gene expression studies of porcine stomach
Gene expression analysis by Real-Time PCR requires careful selection of endogenous reference genes to obtain accurate results. We evaluated usefulness of six reference genes to expression studies of porcine stomach. We s...
