Journal Title: International Journal of Management Sciences - Year 2015, Vol 6, Issue 5
Abstract
This paper addresses the drawbacks of lack of coordination in the process of urban infrastructure provision. The units of analysis are the provision of water supply, wastewater collection, transportation, piped gas, electric power, and telecommunication. A multiple qualitative case study, comprising urban infrastructure provision for four new development areas in Iran, for collecting, analyzing, and presenting data has been devised. In this research, three main sources of data are interviews, documents, and observations. The main research findings are that lack of coordination in the context of urban infrastructure provision result in time and cost overrun, duplication of activities, degradation in the quality of infrastructure and urban landscape, destruction of infrastructure systems and their reliabilities, causing problems in the future operation and maintenance, cascading failure, and social dissatisfaction.
