Effects of some non-genetic factors on concentration of urea in milk in Polish Holstein-Fresian cows
Journal Title: Journal of Animal and Feed Sciences - Year 2013, Vol 22, Issue 3
Abstract
The objective of this study was to estimate lactation curves of milk urea concentration for primiparous Polish Holstein-Friesian cows, milked in different months and air temperatures, using random regression test-day models. In the study, 6 086 431 test-day records collected in the years 2001 to 2009 from 900 962 cows were analysed. Regression curves in classes of environmental effects were modeled with Legendre polynomials. The pattern of lactation curves for milk urea (MU) resembled the lactation curve for milk. In summer and early fall, the MU concentration was higher than in the winter months. At the same time, the increase in the MU concentration was even more strongly associated with the increase of temperature, also in the winter months. In herds with higher milk production, the MU concentration was also higher, however, interaction between average herd milk production and month-temperature was found. A greater influence of month and air temperature was observed in herds with low milk production.

Evolution of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) structure and its receptor
It is evident now that the gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) structure was already in existence very early in the evolution of animals and was co-opted in diverse ways to regulate reproduction. During 600 million yea...
Changes in integrin-positive cells and T cell subpopulations in the peripheral blood and intestine of calves fed soya protein
integrin expression, 16 male 10-day-old Holstein calves were divided into two groups. For 28 days of the experiment, eight males were fed NutriMilk in which 50% of the crude protein was soya protein, and eight control an...
Can silver nanoparticles affect the mineral content, structure and mechanical properties of chicken embryo bones?
investigated whether hydrocolloids of silver nanoparticles (nano-Ag) are deposited in chicken bones during embryogenesis and to what extent they can affect biochemical characteristics, mineral content, structure, and mec...
Standardized ileal digestibility of amino acids in some cereals, rapeseed products and maize DDGS for broiler chickens at the age of 14 days
The experiment was conducted to assess the ileal digestibility values for the purpose of evaluating the ability of 14-day-old broilers to utilize the amino acids (AA) from different plant feeds. The feeds included two ce...
The effect of intracerebroventricular infusions of ghrelin on the secretory activity of the GnRH/LH system in peripubertal ewes
Ghrelin is a 28-amino acid orexigenic peptide, synthesized mainly by cells located in the stomach mucosa, that can be also engaged in modulation of reproductive functions. The aim of this study was to investigate the eff...
