Effects of Stabilization Exercises on Muscular Performance in Women with Chronic Low Back Pain

Journal Title: Biology of Exercise - Year 2015, Vol 11, Issue 2

Abstract

the aim of the study was to examine the relative effectiveness of a 8-week progressive (3 sessions per week) isotonic and isometric rhythmic stabilization exercise program in muscle endurance in women with chronic low back pain (ClBP). Data were collected in the community fitness centers where the intervention took place. a total of 70 women with ClBP (68.2±4.9 years old) were studied. Random allocation was undertaken for the two treatment groups out of the three groups: “isotonic rhythmic stabilization” (n = 30), “isometric rhythmic stabilization” (n = 22), and a control group (n = 18) that did not participate in any form of exercise. subjects trained with each program for 8 weeks with the aim of improving trunk stability and strength. static and dynamic trunk muscle endurance were measured before, 4 weeks after, 8 weeks after, and 4 weeks after training program. Isometric and isotonic rhythmic stabilization training programs may be appropriate for improving short-term trunk muscle endurance and trunk mobility in women with Chronic low Back Pain.
