Effects of The Aqueous Ethanolic Leaves Extract Of Celtis Integrifolia On Liver Function Of Wister Strain Albino Rats
Journal Title: International Journal of Scientific Research and Management - Year 2014, Vol 2, Issue 4
Abstract
The toxic profile of the aqueous ethanolic leaves extract of celtis integrifolia was studied in wister strain albino rats. The rats were administered graded doses (100,150 and 200 mg/kg/day) for 21 days and the effects of the extract on some liver indices were measured. An increase in weight was observed in all treatment groups in the cause of the study. The acute toxicity (LD 50 ) was estimated to be >1500 mg/kg as no clinical sign of toxicity or death was observed. At the dose level tested there were no statistically significant increase or decrease in the serum level of alanine aminot ransferase, alkaline phosphatise, total protein and albumin. But a high level of aspartate aminotransferase was observed in both the control and the treatment groups.
