Effects of yam and cassia seed vermicelli on blood lipid metabolism and antioxidation in dyslipidemia rats
Journal Title: Biomedical Transformation - Year 2022, Vol 3, Issue 1
Abstract
Objective To explore the effects of yam and cassia seed vermicelli on blood lipid metabolism and antioxidation in dyslipidemia rats. Methods Forty-eight SD rats were divided into model group (40 rats) and control group (8 rats). The rats in the model group were fed with high-fat diet for 4 weeks to establish a dyslipidemia rat model. 40 rats were randomly divided into model group, atorvastatin positive control group (10mg/kg/d), yam cassia seed vermicelli low, medium and high dose groups by random number method, with 8 rats in each group. After 5 weeks of intervention, a series of serum lipids index [total triglyceride (TG), total cholesterol (TC), low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C)], liver body ratio, liver TG, TC, superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), malondialdehyde (MDA) and total antioxidant capacity (T-AOC) were measured. Results Compared to the model group, TC of serum, TC and TG of liver decreased by 14.76%, 23.75% and 39.69% in the medium dose group respectively, while SOD, GSH PX and T-AOC increased by 24.09%, 26.90% and 290.24% in the low dose group, respectively (P<0.05).The TG and LDL-C level of Serum were decreased in low, medium and high dose groups (P<0.05). Conclusion Yam and cassia seed vermicelli can reduce the blood lipid level and improve the antioxidant level in dyslipidemia rats. It has a certain application value in the adjuvant treatment of dyslipidemia and antioxidant.
