Abstract
The ecological competence of a specialist in the social sphere is an ability of the personality to form a new ecological thinking and environmentally intelligent behavior. It is responsibly and effectively to make the ecologization of public consciousness and economy with the purpose of the balanced socio-economical development of society and maintainance of nature. Ecological competence becomes immanent quality of any specialist. Ecological education focuses on students’ understanding of ecological behaviour, ecological culture, ecological activity. Ecological competence, which is formed in the institutes of higher education, provides a vision of education that seeks to balance human and economic wellbeing with cultural traditions and respect for the environment (biosphere). The necessity of the inclusion of ecological competence in the state standards of higher education is given in the article.
