EKSTREM YAĞIŞ OLAYLARININ FIRAT HAVZASI’NDAKİ HİDROLOJİK BİLEŞENLERİN YILLAR ARASI DEĞİŞİMİ ÜZERİNE ETKİSİ
Journal Title: EGE COĞRAFYA DERGİSİ - Year 2017, Vol 26, Issue 1
Abstract
In the study, daily gauge measurements of river discharge (Q) and suspended sediment concentrations (SSC) from seven sites along Euphrates River have been used for 30 years in average. As a remote sensing dataset, within the period of 1997-2011, the Tropical Rainfall Measurement Mission (TRMM) product 3B42 has been achieved in order to characterize rainfall variability in the region. In conjunction with satellite data depicting rainfall, climatic evaluation of extreme precipitation events, where the SSC events reached the highest value, have been carried out. According to the preliminary results, in all stations of the study area, the SSC at the 90th percentile accounts for more than 55% of the total suspended sediment flux. In a similar manner, the discharge at the 90th percentile accounts for maximum 50% of the total discharge flux. Besides, extreme precipitation events which rainfall exceeds the 99th percentile of rainfall data set within each station and peak SSC days as days in which the SSC exceeds the 99th percentile of the entire SSC data set from each station have been defined.
