Electromagnetic monitoring of environmentally problematic objects in Precarpathians: results and technological means used

Abstract
Purpose. Designing both the apparatus and methodical means based on the classical methods of electroprospecting and their modification. Using this set for an elecromagnetic monitoring of environmentally problematic objects. The objects to be observed are ground dams, haloes of underground water pollution, mine fields, geotechnical objects. Methodology. High-speed technological set was created and had been studying in the environmentally problematic areas in pre-Carpathians (Yavoriv, Stebnyk, Kalush etc.). It allows to perform both the classic shallow geoelectrical soundings of geological media and their higher frequency modifications provided displacement currents are to be still negligible. Choosing and optimization of the observation systems to measure and to interpret field data obtained considering both numerical and physical modeling data of real cases. Electric conductivity spatial distribution represents all the appropriate geological sections and changes caused by negative processes development. Results. Geoelectric sections for number of problematic mining and industry objects in Kalush region were obtained .The state of geological medium, availability and degree of negative processes development in recent years were evaluated. Originality. Basing on the spatial characteristics of electromagnetic fields and their transformation to the apparent resistivity the geoelectrical parameters of objects examined and their temporal changes (dynamics) were determined at the quantitative level. The technological means of estimating and considering of geoelectric and lithological boundaries disparity during inversion were created and tested in the areas of progressive pollution of underground waters by wastes of potassium production. They are based on combination of profile (area) electromagnetic observation with the data from observatory hydrological boreholes. Practical significance. A significant advantage of technological set to be offered is minimal, non–destructive influence on the mechanical properties of medium investigated. Another feature is ability to detect the processes of medium degradation at an early stage when prevent measures are the most effective at the lowest cost yet. Metrological characteristics of apparatuses proposed, its noise immunity and locality of measurements in particular, permits to obtain credible results despite the high level electromagnetic interferences both the industrial and from the power grids.
