EMBRYOLOGICAL PROCESSES DURING THE SEED FORMATION IN TWO TRIPLOID SPECIES OF Taraxacum
Journal Title: Acta Scientiarum Polonorum – Agricultura - Year 2015, Vol 14, Issue 2
Abstract
The present paper reports on our observations on embryological processes occurring in the ovules of triploids: Taraxacum belorussicum (sect. Palustria) and T. atricapillum (sect. Borea). The reproduction of these dandelions comprises meiotic diplospory, parthenogenesis and autonomous endosperm development. Mature seeds contain viable embryos that provide regular seedlings. At present the importance of cytological and embryological studies of apomicts is specially emphasized because Taraxacum is one of the model genus for investigations of apomixis. It forms a polyploid complex within which there is a close relationship between the mode of reproduction and the ploidy level: diploids reproduce sexually, whereas polyploids are apomicts. Apomixis is of a great interest in plant breeding because it allows clonal seed production but asexual seeds formation by apomixis is not found in any crop plants. Unfortunately, to date any attempts at introducing of apomixis into crop species have failed. It is worth mentioning that dandelions are valuable honey plants and numerous species of Taraxacum are also used in modern herbal medicine.

THE EFFECT OF YARAREGA FERTILIZATION ON THE NITROGEN EFFECTIVENESS AND YIELD OF SWEET SORGHUM (Sorghum bicolor (L.) MOENCH)
Background. The sorghum (C4) species has a high potential for accumulation of photosynthetic radiation. It is possible to obtain a high biomass yield after meeting the fertilization needs of plants, especially as regards...
THE EFFECT OF LONG-TERM TILLAGE SYSTEMS ON SOME SOIL PROPERTIES AND YIELD OF PEA (Pisum sativum L.)
Compared with ploughing tillage, no-tillage systems through their diversified effect on soil, modify its properties, and consequently conditions of plants’ growth and development. The aim of the study was evaluation of t...
EFFECT OF IRRIGATION ON THE CONTENT AND YIELD OF STARCH IN EARLY POTATO CULTIVARS IN DIFFERENT REGIONS OF POLAND
Abstract. The aim of this study was to assess the effect of irrigation on the content and yield of starch in several potato cultivars grown in different regions of Poland. Field experiments were conducted over the period...

Background. The aim of the study was an assessment of the effect of using various sowing methods and types of applied biostimulators on pre-dormancy plant habit as well as on overwintering of three types of winter rape c...
CHANGES OF THE CHOSEN CHEMICAL PROPERTIES OF SOIL AS A RESULT OF LONG-TERM CEREAL CULTIVATION IN CROP ROTATION AND MONOCULTURE
On the basis of the conducted research and analyses, in the years 1972, 1992, and 2010, changes of the chosen chemical properties of soil were evaluated, where five cereal species were grown in two environmentally correc...
