Emotional intelligence and violent behaviors in elementary school students

Abstract

Currently, violent and aggressive behaviors have been multiplying within the educational space, the reasons respond to various causes. In this sense, we seek to reduce these violent acts through the practice and control of emotional intelligence, because through it we can guide, the ability to understand and guide emotions effectively, so that students are successful in different areas of their lives.The study of emotional intelligence and violent behavior in elementary school students, aims to establish the development of emotional intelligence as a tool for the reduction of violent behavior in sixth grade students of the IE José Carlos Mariátegui in the district of Castilla. Using as research methodology, the positivist paradigm, framed within a quantitative posture, with a description field research. The population consistedof 30 students in the sixth grade of primary education of the educational institution in the year 2020. The data collection technique used was the survey and direct observation, and the instruments used were the questionnaire and the notebook. Statisticalanalysis was used to analyze the data obtained. In the results, it is evident that sixth grade students of the José Carlos Mariátegui School reached medium and higher levels of physical, verbal, hostility and anger violent behaviors in more than 60% of them. In conclusion, the emotional intelligence program is proposed as a strategy to develop the dimensions of emotional intelligence to improve the violent behaviors of sixth grade students of the José Carlos Mariátegui School.
