Emperical Relationship of Grain Yield and Dry Mass of Maize with Nutrients Supplied Trough Soils, Fertilizer and Removed by Crop

Abstract

Investigations were carried out on Response of Maize (Zea mays L.) grain yield (kg/ha) and ratio (kg/kg) to the nutrients applications in Telangana state (Soil Test Crop Response Correlation) during 2008 and 2009 at Regional Agricultural Research Station, Warangal. The experiment were conducted at different sites adjacent to each other on a sandy clay loam soil having a low status in available nitrogen (272kg/ha) in the first year and medium (323kg N/ha) in the second year. The soil available phosphorus had a medium status with 60 kg P2O5/ha in the first year and 50. kg P2O5/ha in the second year. It was rich in available potassium having 719 and 829 kg K2O/ha during the corresponding years. The correlation coefficients between grain yield and nutrients were significant with N P K uptake, their supply through fertilizers and soil N and K but not P in the two years. The quadratic multiple regression equations between soil available nutrients with grain yield, fertilizer nutrients and their uptake with grain yield were all significant. The multiple quadratic regression equations between soil available and fertilizer nutrients vis-a-vis their interaction vs yield were Y = 5007** + 4.947 SN – 0.016 SN2 – 24.293 SP + 0.077 SP2 – 13.135* SK + 0.015* SK2 + 8.899** FN – 0.006 FN2 – 2.262 FP + 0.039 FP2 + 30.633 FK + 0.090 FK2 + 0.017 FNSN + 0.222 FPSP – 0.069*FKSK R2 = 0.87** ______________ 2007 Y = 3214 + 4.767 SN + 0.005 SN2 + 284.446* SP – 10.949* SP2 – 9.829 SK + 0.009 SK2 + 20.466** FN – 0.015 FN2 – 4.304 FP – 0.057 FP2 + 17.974 FK + 0.022 FK2 – 0.037* NSN + 1.263* FPSP – 0.029 FKSK R2 = 0.77** ___________ 2008 Y = 2386 + 10.833* SN – 0.002 SN2 + 120.171* SP – 4.518** SP2 – 10.954 SK + 0.013* SK2 + 17.575** FN + 0.012 FN2 – 2.494 FP + 0.02 FP2 + 21.92 FK + 0.033 FK2 – 0.055** FNSN + 0.216 FPSP – 0.042* FKSK R2=0.66** ______________ Pooled The R2 values of 0.93** and 0.86** are more than the minimum proscribed value of 0/66.
