Employees’ Role in Maintaining Health and Safety Practices in the Milk Tea and Cafes in the New Normal

Abstract
COVID-19 has had a tremendous impact on the food industry. Much of this concern causes consumers and food businesses to exert more effort in ensuring food safety and hygiene standards are met. Hence, the researchers opt to examine the factors influencing food establishments in determining if they’re safe and reliable for the public during the pandemic. Specifically, it aimed to present the demographic profile of the employees; determine the factors affecting food safety in food establishments’ safety practices, health and hygiene support, and staff training; analyze significant differences in the responses when grouped according to profile variables; and propose an action plan. The population was composed of staff and managers of selected cafes and milk tea businesses in Batangas, resulting in a sample size of 379. Online survey questionnaires were distributed and conducted to gather the desired information. The data gathered revealed that some managers have a greater assessment when grouped according to profile. Moreover, when grouped according to the level of education, significant differences lie in those who obtained a college degree. Lastly, employees who have been with the company for more than two years were shown to be significantly different from the rest. Recommendations, as well as a proposed action plan, were given for the improvement of food safety in food establishments.
