ENDOMETRIAL STROMAL SARCOMA AND THE DIAGNOSTIC RELIABILITY OF CD10: A CASE REPORT AND REVIEW OF LITERATURE

Abstract
Endometrial stromal sarcoma represents 0.2% of all uterine malignancies. This establishes its rarity as a gynaecologic malignancy, although it is second to uterine leiomyosarcoma among mesenchymal uterine tumours. It almost consistently presents as heavy bleeding per vaginam in addition to a uterine mass (abdominal mass). Being quite a rare type of neoplasm, we present the report of a 60 year old woman who complained of recurring, and heavy vaginal bleeding for a month prior to presentation, and who subsequently had a total abdominal hysterectomy plus bilateral salpingoophorectomy done. Following histopathological examination of the specimen obtained, the diagnosis of low-grade endometrial stromal sarcoma was made and confirmed further by staining with the immunohistochemical marker CD10.
