ENERGY CONSUMPTION AND ENERGY BALANCE DURING THERAPEUTIC HIKING AND SKIING AS PART OF THERAPY FOR OBESE CHILDREN IN THE CLINIC SCHÖNSICHT BERCHTESGADEN
Journal Title: Medicina Sportiva - Year 2012, Vol 16, Issue 4
Abstract
Introduction: The mountain region of Berchtesgaden allows hiking and skiing more intensively as walking in the plain with desired consequences for the therapy of obese children and adolescents. Objective: To assess the exact contribution of hiking and skiing as part of a global therapeutic concept. Methods: Therefore 22 children of the clinic were tested on 2 hiking tracks and 11 children in winter on a cross-country skiing circle, using the transportable MetaMax-System measuring oxygen consumption and by this, the energy consumption. Results: The additional energy consumption by these therapeutic activities amounted to: 13.7 kJ/kg for the short track (52 min), 39.6 kJ/kg for the long track (2:19 h) and 9.5 kJ/kg for 3 circles (29 min). Conclusion: In relation to the strict hypocaloric diet these increases can be seen as relevant for the total metabolism, but a consequent diet remains still very important.

NUTRITION IN ULTRA-ENDURANCE RACING – ASPECTS OF ENERGY BALANCE, FLUID BALANCE AND EXERCISE-ASSOCIATED HYPONATREMIA
Ultra-endurance athletes try to extend their limits in performance. In ultra-endurance races, athletes face limits in nutrition regarding both energy intake and fluid metabolism. The purpose of this review is to focus on...
THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN STAR EXCURSION BALANCE TEST AND LOWER EXTREMITY STRENGTH, RANGE OF MOTION AND ANTHROPOMETRIC CHARACTERISTICS
Objective: To consider the relationship between hip muscles strength, anthropometric characteristics and range of mo¬tion (ROM) with Star Excursion Balance Test (SEBT), a test of dynamic postural control. Methods: Forty...
THE ENDURANCE TRAINING EFECTS OF HIGH – ALTITUDE ALPINISTIC EXPEDITION MAY BE LESS STRONG STIMULUS FOR PERFORMANCE IN HYPOXIA, THAN ACCLIMATIZATION
Objective: To ascertain whether the exercise stimulus during high–altitude alpinistic expedition is enough strong to influ¬ence alpinists performance similarly as acclimatization. Methods: Two groups: 4 alpinists (age:...

EARLY SPORT PRACTICE PROMOTES BETTER METABOLIC PROFILE INDEPENDENTLY OF CURRENT PHYSICAL ACTIVITY
Introduction: It is not clear if early and current physical activity (even interrelated) constitute two independent variables and, thus, affecting independently health outcomes in adulthood. Objective: To analyze the rela...
