ENHANCING LEXICAL COMPETENCE THROUGH AUTHENTIC TEXTS

Abstract
The acquisition of lexical competence is a cornerstone of language learning, and authentic texts have emerged as powerful tools in this endeavor. This article delves into the manifold benefits of utilizing authentic texts to bolster lexical proficiency. Through exposure to natural language usage and diverse contexts, learners can glean nuanced insights into word meanings and usage. The article reviews various research studies that support the use of authentic texts in language learning, showing that they can significantly enhance learners' vocabulary knowledge and reading comprehension compared to traditional textbook-based materials. Moreover, the article addresses potential challenges of using authentic texts, such as unfamiliar language and cultural references, and suggests strategies like scaffolding and grading to make them more accessible to learners at different levels. It emphasizes the need to select texts that are relevant to learners' interests and proficiency levels to increase motivation and engagement.
