Eosinophilic gastroenteritis: Case report
Journal Title: Αρχεία Ελληνικής Ιατρικής - Year 2003, Vol 20, Issue 3
Abstract
The case is reported of a 37 year-old man with diarrhea, persistent abdominal pain, malabsorption syndrome and peripheral eosiniphilia. The histopathological findings in biopsy samples of both upper and lower gastrointestinal tract were compatible with eosinophilic gastroenteritis. The patient was treated with prednisone for one month in total. Eight months later he remained asymptomatic. In conclusion, eosinophilic gastroenteritis must be included among the possible causes of diarrhea, gastrointestinal symptoms in general and malabsorption, especially when accompanied by marked peripheral eosinophilia.
