Journal Title: RSBO - Year 2004, Vol 1, Issue 1
Abstract
This study appraised 1550 children with ages varying from 6 to 8 years in the city of Curitiba, in order to determine the prevalence of malocclusion and its distribution according to the different ethnic groups. It was selected to participate in the study, randomly, a school of 1st degree of the State Net of Public Teaching of each one of the 9 areas of the City of Curitiba. All the racial groups presented a larger incidence of malocclusion of Class I.The Feodermic racial group presented the largest percentage of Class III.Class II malocclusion presented a high prevalence in the racial groups of Leucodermics and Melanodemics. In this study the buccal conditions and the malocclusions prevalence were appraised in relation to the economic and social level of children between 6 and 8 years old of some public schools in the city of Curitiba. The statistical method used was chi-squared. The results showed that there was no statistical difference in relation to the buccal conditions and the prevalence of malocclusion among the city areas, except for a specific one, called Cajuru, where the prevalence of Class I and Class III malocclusion was higher than expected.
