Establishing a Reliability-based Maintenance methodology in a Gas Pressure Reduction System
Journal Title: System Engineering and Productivity - Year 2022, Vol 1, Issue 1
Abstract
Although various maintenance and repair (M&R) methods, especially preventive M&R, are currently used in industries, reliability-based M&R is recognized as an effective method for selecting the correct M&R strategy, which, considering the failure modes of machinery and prioritizing them, suggests methods such as work-to-failure, decision-making to improve system design, condition-based M&R, time-based M&R, function-based M&R, and visits for troubleshooting purposes. As a result, unnecessary M&R activities are prevented, making the M&R process more effective and reducing operating costs. In this article, an attempt has been made to describe the M&R system and share initial experiences of implementing the system in Semnan Province Gas Distribution Company. The most critical equipment was selected for implementing the reliability-based M&R methodology based on the company's existing data records, and then, by identifying the functions, functional failures, failure modes and effects, the appropriate maintenance and repair activity was determined for each of the failure modes of the equipment in question. The results of this study showed that by reducing the number of unnecessary activities, less manpower and time are spent on M&R activities. Similarly, in the method used, much attention was paid to safety and environmental issues and an attempt was made to improve the safety situation and environmental pollution by implementing appropriate M&R activities.
