ESTIMATION THE INFLUENCE THE TYPE OF FILLER ON THE RESISTANCE TO EROSIVE OF EPOXY COATING
Journal Title: Tribologia - Year 2010, Vol 232, Issue 4
Abstract
The paper presents influence of micro- and nanofillers on erosive wear of coatings modified with the use of these particles. Glass microspheres of differentiated diameter values not exceeding 30 μm were used as microfiller at a mass share of 10%; whereas, nanofiller copper particles of mean diameter 66 nm were used at a mass share of 3.5%. Copper nanoparticles caused the essential increase of the erosive resistance of the coatings modified with their use, since this resistance increase by 46% in comparison with the erosive resistance of unmodified coatings. It was primarily caused by the increase in the coating hardness, coating roughness reduction, and the increase of the dynamic storage modulus E’ of modified coatings. The composite coating consisting of epoxy layers modified with glass microspheres showed the lowest erosive resistance. It was probably caused by the higher roughness of the composite coating, the low resistance of microspheres to brittle cracking, and their weak bonding with epoxy material. Higher erosive resistance was obtained for a three-layer epoxy coating with interlayer modified with glass microspheres. It increased by 16%, compared with the erosive resistance of the unmodified coating.
