ETIENNE MAURICE FALCONE AS AN SCULPTOR AND WRITER (1716–1791)

Abstract
Artist and intellectual of the Enlightenment, Etienne Maurice Falcone (1716–1791) was one of a galaxy of "the most famous sculptors of France" (according to the French writer Denis Diderot), his work is "the honor and glory of French art, presented at the courts of enlightened monarchs of Europe" (according to art historian Louis Reau). In Russia, by E.M. Falconet lived for twelve years and created the worldfamous monument to Peter the great – the bronze horseman (Saint Petersburg). The Hermitage houses works made by the sculptor at home.
