Etiology, Epidemiology and Pathophysiology of Vaginitis

Abstract
Vaginitis is a common condition that affects women; it is an inflammation of the vagina, an infection that creates abnormal discharge followed by irritations and itching. Being aware of the etiology and epidemiology of vaginitis is very crucial for successful diagnosis, treatment, and public health intervention. These are the three most common types of infections responsible for vaginitis-bacterial vaginosis, vulvovaginal candidiasis, and trichomoniasis. Therefore, this review of literature tries to consolidate findings of research already done on vaginitis epidemiology, pinpoints areas where more research might be needed due to lack of information.
