EVALUATION OF EFFECT OF BURNOUT SYNDROME IN ORTHOPAEDIC SURGEON

Abstract

Introduction: The Burnout syndrome is a state of depletion and exhaustion caused by over commitment to work or to other area of person’s life. Burnout syndrome is still a matter of debate whether it affects hard working orthopedic surgeons or what extent. Material and methods : The study design was retrospective as well as prospective, random & conducted in Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology at MY Hospital Indore, from July 2017 to October 2017. 40 orthopaedic surgeon were included from various background to overcome bias equally from private and government sector with different age groups and interviewed with help of questionnaire and incidence of burnout was accessed along with their effects on various aspects related to surgeons performance Results : Results were eye opening for researchers that 47.5 percent ortho surgeons are candidate of burnout syndrome and 40 percent comes in the category in which stress is starting to show. Although burnout is in only 5% cases that is tip of the Ice burg. Conclusion: If Burnout score is above 21, you need to immediately change your lifestyle. It is very important that you do something now, to help yourself. Burnout syndrome is preventable condition if few measures are taken by society as a whole.
