Journal Title: Ankara Üniversitesi Sosyal Bilimler Dergisi - Year 2016, Vol 7, Issue 2

Abstract

Muğla Province which includes 160 archaeological, 45 natural and 13 urban protection areas, is loosing its environmental values rapidly. The research aims to evaluate the environmental bioethics value system of the administrators of Muğla. Another aim is to contribute in creating policy to head to ecological city criteria. A qualitative research method – a focus group interview technique, is used. Meetings were held with 39 people from 5 selected groups. One of the research findings is the difference of opinions between the bureaucrat administrators representing the central administration’ and the local actors in Muğla. The first group considers environmental values mainly as a ‘change value’. For local administrators of Muğla, ‘the use value’ and ‘the inherent value’ of the nature are priority values. Muğla locals consciously resist against industrialization and prefers to be a sustainable tourism city as they have high level of bioethics’ sensitivity
