Evaluation of rhizospheric soil and nodules of native species of semi-arid/sub-humid forest ecosystem: coping with the growth barrier
Journal Title: Journal of Biodiversity and Environmental Sciences (JBES) - Year 2017, Vol 10, Issue 2
Abstract
The microorganisms (Bacillus and Achromobacter species) present in soil and root nodules play an important role in phosphorus solubilization and proline production. They are of utmost importance for growth enhancement in tree species especially which are surviving under stressed conditions. This study was carried out to solve the problem of stunted growth in native tree species which are striving in physiologically stressed conditions in semi-arid/sub humid forest ecosystem of Pakistan via application of plant growth promoting rhizobacteria (PGPRs). The rhizospheric soil and nodules under native tree species viz a vizAcacia modesta, A. nilotica, AlbizzialebbekandA.procera were collected. A series of experiments were carried out to isolate Rhizobial strains from tree rhizospheric soil and nodules, through characterizing bacteria using molecular and biochemical techniques. Moreover the isolation was carried out through dilution plate techniques. Luria Bertani(LB)and Yeast ExtarctManitol(YEM) media were used. Strains were purified and preserved in glycerol stocks. The purified strains were also tested for proline and phosphorus solubilization. The study revealed that maximum phosphate solubilized by Achromobacter muciolenswhileenhancedProline contents were found in Achromobacter xylosoxidans. This study identified that by application of PGPRs one can enhance the growth in tree species which are striving in stressed conditions.

Fessia is a genus of bulbous flowering plants in the family Asparagaceae, subfamily Scilloideae (also treated as the family (Hyacinthaceae)). It is distributed from Iran to Central Asia and Pakistan. A number of species...
Abundance, length – weight relationships and Fulton’s condition factor of the freshwater cichlid Sarotherodon galilaeus (Pisces: Teleostei: Perciformes) from a sand-dragged man-made lake of Southern Benin, West Africa
Condition factors and growth trends indices such as allometry coefficients are decisive fisheries management tools that evaluate the well-being of fishes, their establishment and the quality of their habitat. We investig...
Species/geographic boundaries and evolutionary interrelationships of cultivated linden-trees (Tilia L.) based on morphological and nrDNA ITS characteristics
Nuclear ribosomal transcribed spacers (ITS1-5.8S rRNA-ITS2) is a popular marker that has superior taxa resolution in some groups of organisms. A taxonomic reassessment of 27 Tilia taxa combining a molecular marker (ITS...
Effect of planting date on ecophysiological and morphological characteristics of lines and varieties of barley in different regions of Kermanshah
Obtaining high performance from barley needs to conform vegetative and reproductive growth stages to suitable weather conditions through suitable planting date. The present research carried out to study the effect of pl...
Screening of Plants for the Phytoremediation of Zinc from Dir Lower, Khyber Pakhunkhwa, Pakistan
Zinc can cause fatigue and dizziness. Its higher concentration induce observable toxicity symptoms in plant leaves as chlorosis and necrosis and reducing elongation of central root while promoting lateral roots formation...
