"Evaluation of the level of reading comprehension in university students applying the cloze test"

Abstract
The purpose of this research is to evaluate the level of reading comprehension in university students of the School of Industrial Design of the Pontifical Catholic University of Ecuador-Ambato, using the Cloze test, considering that reading comprehension has a close relationship with appropriation of knowledge, because they depend on each other. Bibliographic research was used for the scientific basis of the subject and field research to collect the data with the sample of 5 students in the first semester and 11th semester of the Industrial Design Engineering Degree, to whom the test was applied. of Cloze, considering that statistical data are not known to verify the level of reading comprehension presented by students 6 years ago. By using the inferential statistics method and the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) program, it is determined that only 12.50% reaches the independent level, that is, there is efficiency in reading comprehension; 43.75% of students are at the instructional level where reading comprehension is moderately fluid; and 43.75% in the level of frustration, that is, they have shortcomings in understanding what they read. Similar data were found between the male and female gender, concluding that future professionals need to improve their reading comprehension for a good academic and professional performance.
