Evaluation of the use of The International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) as an effective assessment of improving processes concerning the inmates of nursing home

Journal Title: Niepełnosprawność - zagadnienia, problemy, rozwiązania - Year 2017, Vol 0, Issue 23

Abstract

Aim: Evaluation of the change of intensity of functional problems of the inmates of nursing home, using ICF, applying to „activity” and „participation” after the use of physiotheraphy and orthopedic equipment as well as an analysis of correlation of the changes of intensity of particular functional problems between each other. Clinical material: The group of 38 inmates of nursing home. An avarage age of the examined people was 77,5±10,2. Research method: C omparison o f i ntensity o f f unctional p roblems i n p articular categories before and after environmental intervention. The statistics level of significance was measured by a signed-ranks test. Correlation rate (r) between two ranked variables was measured by Spearman’s rank correlation. Results: During an analysed period in categories described by „activity” and „participation” qualifiers reduction of problems up to 56,2% was observed. The lack of the change of intensity of functional problem occurred in 41,6%. There was only one person who experienced the intensity of the problem, only in one category (body care), which means taking a turn for the worse in this function (2,6%). The significance level of these results was p≤0,00001. The analysis of correlation between the change of intensity of functional problems and the age of inmates showed the statistics significance only for a category „moving” (r=0,30, p=0,05). The analysis of correlation of the change of intensity of functional problem between particular categories showed that 50% of correlation results were statistically significant. Conclusion: The International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health may be used as a tool for evaluation of the changes of functional state of the inmates of nursing home. Improving processes give a chance for betterment of functional state or the stop of the change for the worse.
