Evaluation of the usefulness of the mitochondrial DNA control region for resolving phylogenetic relationships at different taxonomic levels in Hemiptera

Abstract
The usefulness of the mitochondrial (mt) DNA control region (CR) for resolving phylogenetic relationships at different taxonomic levels within the order Hemiptera was estimated. The analyses suggest that the mtDNA control region can be useful as a molecular marker in studies at lower taxonomic levels (i.e., within families); however, at higher levels (i.e., within infraorders, suborders, or within the entire order), it might not reflect true phylogenetic relationships, as shown by studies on the complete mitogenomes.
