EVOLUTION OF THE “FUNCTIONS OF THE STATE” DOCTRINE IN MODERN LEGAL SCIENCE

Abstract
This article examines the definition of the term “functions of the State” in its evolution. During the analysis it was established that the theory of state functions has been used in Soviet social science (including Law) since the 1950s. This theory was based on the work of German jurists of the Nineteenth century. Later the theory modified under the influence of dialectical materialism and elements of the system approach. The systemic approach allowed us to single out in theory a clause about the main function that corresponds to the nature of the State. Because of the change in the nature and functions of the State in the modern era, it is proposed to research this problem using the methods of social sciences.
