Journal Title: Prohominum - Year 2024, Vol 6, Issue 3

Abstract

Currently, the need to introduce advanced statistical models and tools into research has increased worldwide. The use and adequate interpretation of these techniques allow optimal decision-making, efficiency and the achievement of superior efforts in different spheres and especially in the professional performance of engineers, whose application favors the development of their research areas. The objective of this work was to analyze the criteria for the use of SPSS software in the teaching of Statistics in the virtual modality in engineering courses at the Amazonian State University. The sample was made up of 10 Statistics teachers and 120 engineering students. Two surveys were applied (one to teachers and the other to students with 7 and 14 questions respectively) on the use of SPSS in Statistics classes. The responses were processed by quantitative methods. The teachers showed mastery and application of SPSS in their classes while the students showed satisfaction with the use of this software in real problems of their profession. Among the main results, good mastery and application of SPSS by teachers in their classes stands out. The students reflected a favorable attitude towards the software and consider it important to better understand Statistics and solve activities with a lot of data. Finally, the advantages and deficiencies derived from the research are provided and didactic recommendations for virtual statistics in engineering are offered
