Experimental study of the loss of balance process before falling from a height
Journal Title: Acta of Bioengineering and Biomechanics - Year 2016, Vol 18, Issue 1
Abstract
Due to a high number of accidents at work, actions have been undertaken to apply numerical simulation for reconstruction of their course in time. First works on this issue showed that the numerical human body model developed in the Central Institute for Labour Protection – National Research Institute (CIOP-PIB) should be adjusted to the nature of specific accidents. Hence, a need arose to adjust the model for reconstruction and simulation of falls from heights. The adjustment involved supplementing the model with functions enabling taking into account movements of a person at the time of losing their balance, as such movements influence the course of a fall. For this purpose, a study with participation of volunteers has been conducted to define these movements. Within the framework of the study, reactions (body movements) of the subjects at the time of losing their balance were recorded. The works resulted in obtaining parameters that, after an analysis, may be used as initial conditions for a numerical model of the human body.
Toes function biomechanical investigation through external manipulation integrating analysis
Purpose: This study was aimed to investigate the function of toes while running through comparing bound toes by external-manipulation with natural separate toes by evaluating kinematics and plantar pressure analysis. Met...
Muscle torque of healthy individuals and individuals with spastic hemi paresis after passive static stretching
Spasticity is one of the main causes of contracture, muscle weakness and subsequent functional incapacity. The passive static stretching can included as having the purpose of increasing musculoskeletal flexibility, howev...
The novel method to calculate mechanical properties of cancer cells based on atomic force microscopy
Purpose: Mechanical properties, as the inherent characteristics of cells, play a critical role in many essential physiological processes, including cell differentiation, migration, and growth. The mechanical properties o...
Mechanical behaviour of knit synthetic mesh used in hernia surgery
Purpose: There is a discussion in literature concerning mechanical properties and modelling of surgical meshes. An important feature of elastic modulus dependency on load history is taken into account in this paper, as i...
A novel kinematic model for a functional spinal unit and a lumbar spine
Purpose: The aim of this paper is to present the novel model for the functional spinal unit and spine designed as a rigid mechanism and solve it with methods commonly used in robotics. Methods: The structure of the inter...
