Abstract
This paper provides a comprehensive examination of tolerance within the discipline of psychology, integrating historical, psychological, and sociocultural perspectives. Drawing upon insights from ancient philosophical inquiries to modern psychological research, the paper traces the historical evolution of tolerance and explores its psychological underpinnings. Early pioneers such as Sigmund Freud and Alfred Adler laid the groundwork for understanding the cognitive, affective, and behavioral components of tolerance, while contemporary researchers continue to explore its multifaceted nature. Moreover, the paper examines the interplay between social and cultural influences on tolerance, including the role of social norms, cultural values, and institutional practices.
