Expression of Tumor Necrosis Factor-α and Interleukin-6 in Chronic Suppurative Otitis Media
Journal Title: Turkish Journal of Immunology - Year 2019, Vol 7, Issue 1
Abstract
Introduction: Chronic suppurative otitis media (CSOM) with cholesteatoma is decribed by keratin epithelial invasion in the middle ear and osteolysis in both of the ear bones and the temporal bone. Some inflammatory factors involved in bone resorption stimulation are Tumor Necrosis Factor Alpha (TNF-α) and Interleukin-6 (IL-6). The aim of this study is to determine the expression of TNF-α and IL-6 in CSOM patients with cholesteatoma. Materials and Methods: The design of this study is cross-sectional comparative analytic in 16 responders or CSOM patients with cholesteatoma and 16 samples of normal ear skin. The gene expressions of samples were examined through Real-Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) method and were analyzed with statistics software (p<0.05). Results: The expression of TNF-α and IL-6 in CSOM patients with cholesteatoma were higher than their expression in normal ear skin. The expression of TNF-α was 0.1835±0.322 ng/ul in CSOM patients, while it is 0.005±0.006 ng/ul in normal ear skin (p=0.043). In addition, the expression of IL-6 was 2.127±2.320 ng/ul in CSOM patients and 0.005±0.006 ng/ul in normal ear skin (p=0.010). Conclusion: The expression of TNF-α and IL-6 in CSOM patients with cholesteatoma are significantly different from patients with normal ear skin.

Multi-Epitope Cluster Ep85B within the Mycobacterial Protein Ag85B Elicits Cell-Mediated and Humoral Responses in Mice
Introduction: Epitope-based vaccines present a rational alternative to conventional concepts of vaccine design, particularly for combating complex infectious agents such as tuberculosis (TB). We have previously identifie...
The Associations of Plasma Levels of Beta Amyloid, Insulin, Insulin-Degrading Enzyme and Receptor of Advanced Glycosylation End Product with Cognitive Impairment in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Patients
Background: Diabetes mellitus patients are at a higher risk of developing cognitive impairment compared to the non-diabetes mellitus population. There are various mechanisms underlying the association between diabetes me...

Diverse Responses of Neurons and Monocytes to Titanium Dioxide Nanoparticle Exposure
Introduction: The toxicity of titanium dioxide nanoparticles (TiO2NPs) in neurons occurs by glutamate signaling via N-methyl-d-aspartate (NMDA) receptors. Although cellular uptake of TiO2NPs may lead to oxidative stress...
Soybean Extract Suppresses B Cell Activation Through TLR3/TLR4 in High Fat-High Fructose Diet Mice
Introduction: The relationship between B cells and Toll-like Receptors (TLRs) under high fat−high fructose diet (HFFD) is still poorly understood. Isoflavone content from soybean can be modified by using biotic and abiot...
