Journal Title: Otolaryngologia Polska - Year 2011, Vol 65, Issue 3

Abstract

SUMMARY In the age of antibiotics sinusitis complications occur not so often, but they are stili dangerous end even despite proper therapy may lead to patient's death. The paper presents rare case of male in the age twenty five, who had extensive subperiosteal abscess in frontal area (Pott's puffy tumor), during rhinosinusitis. Symptoms, diagnosis process, therapy and treatment results are performed. The author pays attention to bony face trauma which had been endured four years before abscess occurrence. The importance of computer tomography is also highlighted. The treatment included Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery, extensive incision and outside drainage of subperiosteal ab-scess in frontal area. Also antibiotics therapy was used. Clinical symptoms steped back completely. Three months later nasal septum surgery was made. Currently patient is under constant laryngologic observation. Conclusions: 1. Osteomyelitis of frontal bone and Pott's tumor are rare complication of frontal sinusitis. 2. Modern imaging (CT, MR) allow to establish diagnosis and help to treat-ment control. 3. Patient who had bone face trauma and break might have intracranial com-plications of sinusitis more often. 4. Fast performed surgery and advance, selective antibiotics therapy give a chance for complete cure.
