External Contamination and Decontamination Techniques
Journal Title: Nükleer Tıp Seminerleri - Year 2017, Vol 3, Issue 3
Abstract
External contamination is the transmission of radioactive materials to the human body, equipment, and the environment. The first rule of controlling radioactive contamination is to limit the spread of the material. Decontamination in the first few minutes after exposure is the most effective way in order to protect the patient. Contamination control should be done by radiation measurement and a “decontamination area” should be established. The use of protective equipment by healthcare personnel is important. For decontamination of the skin, water and soap as well as liquid, dry, and chemical decontaminants may be used.

Sentinel Lymph Node Scintigraphy and Biopsy in Head and Neck Cancers
Cervical lymph node metastasis is one of the most important prognostic parameter in head and neck cancers. Most head and neck tumors have occult metastases rates exceeding 15-20%, and elective treatment of the neck is ge...
Late Effects of Radiation from Conception to Adolescence: Risk in Intrauterine Irradiation, Hereditary Effects, Solid Tumours
Ionizing radiation causes excitation or ionization of atoms or molecules in biological tissues. Depending on the dose of radiation being exposed and the changing biochemical processes, damage can occur within minutes or...
