FACTORES PSICOSOCIALES QUE MOTIVAN EL CONSUMISMO EN LOS ESTUDIANTES UNIVERSITARIOS DE LAS FACULTADES DE PSICOLOGÍA Y COMUNICACIÓN SOCIAL DE LA UNIVERSIDAD CENTRAL DEL ECUADOR

Abstract

Research work on economic behavior, specifically on Psychosocial Factors and Consumerism. The objective of the study was to know the psychosocial factors that provoke the consumerism in young university students of the Psychology and Social Communication Faculties of the Central University of Ecuador; as a way to establish a baseline for future research in the framework of the work carried out by the Observatory of Economic Behavior and Public Policy. The study has a non-experimental, descriptive and cross-sectional methodology. The information was collected in a non-probabilistic sample of 300 students from the Faculties of Psychology and Social Communication of the Central University of Ecuador. The results of the research show that young university students do not fall within the category of consumerism, because there are moderate manifestations in their economic behavior, evidencing a good level of planning of their purchases; It is also observed that there are not mainly levels of influence of advertising to buy and categorize indebtedness from a position of prudence leading to non-impulsive consumption. The study concludes the need and importance of sustaining this prudent attitude towards the market with a strong formation or literacy in Economic Citizenship.
